CESAR's approaches to Conflict Resolution
Applied Research in Conflict Resolution
Since
1991 (WFED, Oslo was in 1994 renamed to CESAR), research programs
have revealed that a key to prevention and resolution of resource
conflicts is in developing a commonly accepted factual basis, or
understanding, for parties involved in conflict situations. Research
was therefore applied in establishing confidence-building processes
between parties.
CESAR has also
conducted conflict assessment upon request from The United Nations.
In some cases the UN sought for a Third Party opinion about the
parties' interests and positions and possible recommendations for
action.
As part of this work, CESAR has also conducted research and policy
assessment of the role of the United Nations in prevention and resolution
of conflicts.
Training
The organisation
has been actively involved in training of national and international
staff and other delegates, as well as in conflict assessment and
facilitation processes.
Facilitation
CESAR has
implemented several bilateral, trilateral and multilateral sessions
between parties involved in conflicts.
In addition, CESAR has developed confidence-building, professional,
international formal and informal networking processes.
Only some of the results of CESAR's activities will be made available
through publications.
